Then later we were in another area. A group of children came by and somehow Reece became disoriented and couldn't see the rest of us. I noticed because I was completely aware of where and how Reece was at any given moment. Immediately I began to call his name but he did not hear me. As I went over to rescue him, I noticed that he was on the verge of crying. Poor little boy, he thought he was lost, separated, alone. How scary that must be for a little one. I scooped him up in my arms and Reece immediately relaxed. I told him, "Reece, you were scared weren't you?" He nodded a yes. Then I said, "Grandma was watching you. I would never let you get lost."

A few days later during a prayer time, I realized that was just like us. As children of the Living God we are never lost, alone or abandoned. It is impossible to be so for Our Father promises he will never leave us or forsake us. Yet, just like Reece at the zoo, sometimes we feel as though we are. When the circumstances of life surround us, sometimes we become fearful. Sometimes we look around and can´t seem to find God in the situation. But more surely than I was aware of Reece, God is there. His eyes are always on us. He is waiting to respond to our smallest need. My experience with Reece highlighted this truth. All of us who are parents or grandparents or even baby-sitters can relate to this. What a joy for me it was to have concrete example of how God fathers us.
